Ingredients

  • 1 pound 450g ground beef (80/20)
  • 4 brioche burger buns
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 small onion thinly sliced
  • 8 pickle slices
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 4 tomato slices
  • 4 tablespoons smash burger sauce
  • Optional: extra cheese for double burgers

Method

Cooking Instructions
    Prepare the Ingredients
    1. Slice the onion and tomato. Wash the lettuce leaves. Measure the seasonings and prepare all toppings before cooking. Smash burgers cook very quickly, so everything should be ready first.
    Divide the Beef
    1. Divide the ground beef into eight equal portions. Roll each portion into a loose ball. Do not press the meat tightly because loose beef creates better crispy edges.
    Heat the Skillet
    1. Place a cast iron skillet over high heat. Add vegetable oil and let the skillet become very hot. A hot cooking surface creates the famous golden crust.
    Smash the Beef
    1. Place two beef balls onto the skillet. Immediately press each one flat using a metal spatula or burger press. Press firmly for about ten seconds to create thin patties.
    Season the Patties
    1. Sprinkle salt and black pepper evenly over each patty. Let them cook without moving for about two minutes until deep brown crispy edges develop naturally.
    Flip and Add Cheese
    1. Flip the patties carefully using a sturdy spatula. Immediately place American cheese on top. Cook for another one minute until the cheese melts completely and the burger finishes cooking.
    Toast the Buns
    1. Spread butter lightly on the inside of each bun. Toast them in the skillet for one to two minutes until golden and slightly crispy.
    Build the Burgers
    1. Spread smash burger sauce on the toasted buns. Add lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, two cheesy patties, and the top bun. Serve immediately while hot and juicy.

    • Toast the buns.
    • Use American cheese for perfect melting.
    • Prepare toppings before cooking.
    • Do not overcrowd the skillet.
    • Serve immediately.
