Ingredients

  • 4 pounds beef brisket
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 2 large onions sliced
  • 4 garlic cloves minced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Method

Prepare the Brisket
  1. Pat the brisket dry using paper towels. Trim extra fat if needed. Rub salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika all over the meat.
Sear the Meat
  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet. Place brisket inside and sear both sides for about 4 minutes. This helps lock in flavor.
Prepare the Pan
  1. Place sliced onions at the bottom of your roasting pan. Add minced garlic on top. This creates a flavorful base.
Make the Sauce
  1. Mix beef broth, barbecue sauce, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, and chili powder in a bowl until smooth and combined.
Add Brisket to Pan
  1. Place the seared brisket over the onions. Pour the prepared sauce over the meat evenly.
Cover and Bake
  1. Cover the roasting pan tightly with aluminum foil. Bake at 300°F for about 4 hours.
Check Tenderness
  1. Carefully remove foil. Check brisket with a fork. It should feel soft and tender.
Add Butter
  1. Place butter on top of the brisket. Return to oven uncovered for another 30 minutes.
Rest Before Slicing
  1. Remove brisket from oven and let it rest for 20 minutes before slicing.
Serve and Enjoy
  1. Slice against the grain for tender bites. Spoon extra sauce over the top before serving
